The study of bone as a tissue has received considerable attention in the past few years, and interest has centered in particular on bone as a dynamic substance responsive to its environment. Dr. Frost's book reflects this interest and is concerned almost entirely with the view of bone as an active, responsive tissue. A study of this aspect of bone makes necessary a proper understanding of measurements of bone turnover, that is, the formation and resorption of bone tissue, and this is one of Dr. Frost's main objectives.
