The subtitle of Prof. Bauer's reference book on cancer indicates that he considers it to be an introduction to general oncology for students, medical men, and biologists. This statement hardly does justice to the value of the book or to the effort which the author must have expended in compiling this detailed survey of a difficult field. The systematic manner in which he discusses the various aspects of the problem of cancer certainly makes this book a very welcome introduction into the problem for anybody interested in it, but its main value will lie in the convenient assembly—the author has
