The authors of this volume confess in the preface that they are presenting an apologia for the autopsy. This is certainly an original pretext for writing what turns out to be an account of how to perform an autopsy and examine the organs, with a listing of and commentary on the gross lesions that may be found. However, the volume is too large to serve as a suitable handbook of autopsy procedure for the beginning pathologist, and cannot replace the numerous comprehensive texts which cover in more complete detail the lesions found in disease.
