Papers and discussions from a symposium on some current advances and philosophies from the general field of virology are presented. Included are certain fundamental mechanisms of virus reproduction as demonstrated with bacteriophage and the application of this model as well as plant and animal viruses to studies in genetics. Oncogenic effects in animals are described. Of clinical interest are the effect of antimetabolites on virus keratitis, etiologic studies on infectious and serum hepatitis, and discussions of some of the newer respiratory tract pathogens.
