Tissue culture is a rapidly expanding technique that is becoming increasingly important in biological and medical research. This book is intended as an introduction to animal cell culture methods and use in research. The opening chapters are devoted to a history of tissue culture emphasizing its broad applications. Subsequent chapters deal with the morphology of cells in culture, the design and equipping of laboratories for tissue culture, and the preparation and maintenance of cell lines.
The remaining two thirds of the book are devoted to chapters on the uses of tissue culture in biological research. These include brief surveys of
