There have been numerous publications regarding patterns of recovery in peripheral blood and bone marrow following radiation injury to the marrow. On the other hand, few publications have described the changes that characterize recovery from agranulocytosis resulting from idiosyncrasy to drugs.
This study concerns the morphologic changes that occur in peripheral blood and bone marrow in 21 patients during recovery from agranulocytosis. Nineteen of these followed treatment with chlorpromazine, one with sulfonamides and one with ristocetin. Agranulocytosis was characterized by absence of granulocytes and monocytes, and by lymphopenia. The bone marrow showed aplasia in all. Restoration to normal hematologic values
