Many physicians who teach physical diagnosis to medical students are not satisfied with the textbooks presently available. Some of this dissatisfaction concerns a failure of these books to relate symptoms and physical signs to the underlying physiologic basis of health and disease. Judge, Zuidema, and eleven associate authors have utilized the physiologic approach in their new book. The content is similar to conventional physical diagnosis texts, but the organization of material is functionally oriented. Techniques of examination and the definition of normal are emphasized more than detailed descriptions of disease entities.
