We have completed 250 pancreatic photoscans using Selenomethionine-Se-75 in a series of 100 patients. Early in this study we found physiological difficulties in the stimulation of the pancreas. Delineation of the pancreas in the early studies was also impaired by the concentration of Se-75 in organs adjacent to the pancreas. We devised a protocol that stimulated the pancreas in its uptake of Selenomethionine-Se-75 and delayed pancreatic emptying, thereby providing a scanning period as long as 24 hr.
Using a Au-198 liver scan, a ½-in. thick lead shield was placed over the liver, blocking out a major concentration of Se-75 that
