Recent interest in unilateral renal disease as a cause of hypertension has prompted the development of several diagnostic tests. The renogram was the first attempt to use radioisotopes to compare the function of the two kidneys. However, this test did not indicate the relative sizes of the kidneys nor did it permit the visualization of parenchymal lesions. In 1959 Denneberg and Hedenskog (1) used I131-labeled sodium diatrizoate (Hypaque®) and iodopyracet (Diodrast®) for scintillation scanning of the kidneys. In 1960 McAfee and Wagner (2) proposed the use of chlormerodrin (Neohydrin®) labeled with radiomercury (Hg203), because it was highly concentrated in the
