Volume XIII of a series of monographs on miscellaneous topics of pathology or clinical science, published by the house of Springer, is devoted to an account of normal human hemoglobin and of its variants. It is a slim volume of 148 pages, but it is packed with information, an extensive bibliography and a good cross index. Its interest to clinicians will be enhanced not only by the detailed account of methods in use for the study of hemoglobinopathes, but also by the fast that the regionally limited experience of a Swiss worker has been placed into the larger context of
