With the hallmarks of authority, realism, conciseness, and good writing, this book is another example of the excellence of many British texts on clinical medicine. The main strength of this book comes from its clinical descriptions, which reflect the authors' extensive personal experience in studying tropical diseases. Their purpose in writing it (as stated in the forward of the first edition) is to provide "that information essential for clinical diagnosis and treatment of those diseases which occur primarily in the tropics"; this purpose they have very well achieved.
