This book, dealing with a somewhat controversial and puzzling subject in 272 pages, about half of which are occupied by photographs of anatomic specimens, roentgenograms and diagrams, is organized into nine chapters, on "History," "Roentgen Technique," "Embryology," "Histology," "Roentgen Anatomy," "Physiology," "Hiatal Insufficiency and Hiatal Hernia," and "Functional Disturbances and Organic Lesions." Inasmuch as one of the authors is a pathologist and three are roentgenologists, the portions of the text written from the authors' experience are concerned with the gross and microscopic anatomy and the roentgenologic appearances of the lower esophagus and its junction with the stomach.
