Professor Bernard has made a worthy contribution with his book. The enigmatic diagnostic, pathologic and physiologic aspects of all forms of pancreatitis are reviewed. Drawing from his own extensive experience at the University of Lille and with abundant reference to the contributions of others in the field, he has accomplished a prodigious feat; that of presenting under one cover everything established as fact and all that is speculative about acute pancreatitis. The book is well-organized and has abundant bibliography. It will serve as an excellent reference work; an effort should be made to have the book translated into English.
