A group of 12 New Zealand white rabbits with an average whole blood cholesterol of 86 mg/100 ml and a group of 6 New Zealand white rabbits, which had previously undergone ileal bypass and had an average whole blood cholesterol of 69 mg/100 ml, were simultaneously placed on a 2% cholesterol diet for 4 months. The ileal by-pass was performed from the bowel midpoint to the cecum and therefore excluded the distal five-sixths of the ileum, as well as the ileocecal valve.
