Similarities between fatty liver of pregnancy and the fatty liver produced in pregnant women who have received intravenously administered tetracycline have been noted. We have studied 16 patients with fatty liver of pregnancy. Twelve had received large amounts of intravenous tetracycline for pyelonephritis 4 to 5 days before they developed symptoms of fatty liver of pregnancy. The findings were similar in the pregnant patients who had received tetracycline and those who had not. In both groups there were pathologic changes of organ systems other than the liver.
