The value of "how-to-do-it" manuals varies directly with their content of "why-you-do-it." By this standard, Hoeber's new subscription series, considered altogether, gets a passing grade. The contributors are well-known authorities, which at once insures the quality of contributions from most of them but also explains why a few of these authorities, probably excessively burdened with heavy demands for commitments to lecture and to write, have turned in pale and thin pieces.
The content of "why-you-do-it" is what raises the value of this series above the all-too-often unjustified advice in a therapeutic handbook like Current Therapy. This province of hungrily sought,
