The author cleverly collates 521 references with a lifetime of first-hand experience in many aspects of this multifaceted disease. Pertinent historical references are interspersed throughout the book in addition to a separate section on the history of gout.
The book is written in an informal, almost conversational style; although certain passages are redundant, the text is lucid and should prove easy to read even for the physician with only a casual interest in the disease. Some may be annoyed at the use of
