Considering the limitations imposed by its small size (80 pages), this soft-covered textbook contains a reasonable amount of current information concerning diseases of the thyroid. The primary emphasis is placed on the laboratory diagnosis of thyroidal disorders, especially those techniques utilizing radio-iodine. A chapter devoted to iodine metabolism in health and disease is well-done, incorporating both brevity and clarity. However, the sections dealing with clinical features and treatment are so abbreviated and incomplete that they are of dubious utility. In general, the book suffers from the absence of illustrations; the discussion of scanning techniques is particularly handicapped in this regard.
