Fluorine is used in drinking water to prevent dental caries and to treat certain bone lesions, for example, Paget's disease. However, little literature is available on the rate of absorption and excretion of fluorine in human subjects. Only one report appears in the literature evaluating F18 as a means of localizing tumor metastatic to bone. This study presents new data on the dynamics of fluorine in the dog (20 experiments in 5 dogs) and the human subject (15 patients). Six of the patients studied had primary bone tumors which were correctly diagnosed by isotope photoscanning techniques.
