In about 1200 pages, this now-classic text presents systematic discussions of the disciplines of bacteriology, immunology, virology, mycology, and parasitology. Although the reviewer cannot claim to have read this edition in its entirety, the general impression received is favorable. This is clearly a student text and not a reference book; with its scope and size, many discussions are limited.
Considerable effort has been expended in bringing a host of new information to the reader; as stated in the preface, over 2,000 new references from 1960 to the present are included. Another excellent feature is the high quality of illustrations including
