A very high standard in this collection is established by the opening statement by Davis (Harvard), "Membranes, Ribosomes, and Bactericidal Action." After the five excellent articles on basic aspects of research on virus and cancer by Gause (Moscow), Heidelberger (Madison), Mazia (Berkeley), Veldstra (Leyden), and Grunberg and Prince (Nutley), this standard is partially achieved in the succeeding sections. The chemotherapy of tuberculosis is covered in 23 articles; bacterial infections receive the bulk of the allotted space with 95 articles; 30 concern antiviral chemotherapy.
