Forty-three physicians have contributed to these proceedings of a symposium covering pulmonary embolic disease held in May, 1964, in Boston. They have added the latest results of clinical and laboratory research. The first chapter is devoted to investigations involving biochemical and mechanical alterations leading to thrombo-embolism, and is followed by 12 papers discussing the hemodynamic reactions to pulmonary embolism. A further chapter evaluates the role of electro-cardiography, radiology, and nuclear medicine in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. Finally, six papers describe clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
