Resembling in some ways a mixture of abridged sections of Duncan's Diseases of Metabolism and Williams' Textbook of Endocrinology, this two-volumed textbook of 17 chapters by 14 authors presents surveys of biochemical and metabolic topics directly pertinent to clinical medicine. Most chapters lean heavily on "metabolism" and give the "disorders" light treatment.
Some topics are developed at great length, as in the 132 pages on the biochemistry of carbohydrate and the clinical problems of diabetes mellitus. Other chapters show curious omissions; that on calcium and phosphorus metabolism concentrates first on a long review of this topic, with emphasis on Vitamin
