The discovery of the role of collagen in a number of our most important and common diseases channeled a notable portion of our research, our writing, and our thinking in its direction. This led to the finding that collagen is the basic fabric of bone and cartilage as well as connective tissue, thus resulting in an explosion of research effort involving the morphology and physiology of all the tissues of the locomotor system.
