The first 371 pages and the index are reprinted unchanged from the first edition that was published 25 years ago and reviewed in the ANNALS (16: 1027, 1942). In this second edition, asterisks in about 65 places refer to added commentaries where medical matters are brought up to date. The terms Peiping (peiping or north peace) and Peking (pei-ching or north capital) are used; the latter is current and proper.
