Ozaena is the term applied to chronic, fetid, atrophic rhinitis of obscure etiology. It is known that the disorder occurs in conditions of poverty, hunger and dirt. This monograph attempts to establish a causal relationship between iron lack and the syndrome of ozaena. The author reports on 65 patients with ozaena examined for evidence of iron deficiency. The matter of the occurrence of tissue iron deficiency with and without the simultaneous occurrence of iron deficiency anemia is also considered.
