The controversial subject to which this book devotes itself is best exemplified in an answer given by Dr. Fletcher, one of the participants, to a questioner: "I think the reason why we want to define chronic bronchitis is because chronic bronchitis is a cause of a great misunderstanding and confusion. There is no doubt, as you certainly have seen here today and as one has seen very much between Americans and ourselves, we use this term to mean different things."
