There is a paucity of introductory textbooks that include the newer concepts of auscultation and phonocardiography derived from cardiac catheterization, angiography, cardiac surgery, and intracardiac phonocardiography. The authors present, in a concise manner, a basic approach to cardiovascular physical examination, an introduction to the principles and techniques of auscultation and phonocardiography, and in logical sequence, discuss heart sounds and heart murmurs.
Sketches of auscultatory events or phonocardiograms of high quality are presented in an effective manner. The concept of teaching auscultatory phenomena based on intracardiac sound and pressure studies is introduced. The chapters are brief; the list of references after
