This is the first time the field of venereal diseases has been included in the "Recent Advances" series. It is noted by the author that this book was contemplated in 1949, but that the idea was all but abandoned because of the diminishing literature and loss of interest in this field following World War II. Unfortunately, although the incidence of these diseases is increasing everywhere, the revival of interest has lagged, and it is to be hoped that this volume will stimulate this revival.
