To a rapidly expanding field that seems perpetually deficient in adequate textbooks comes a needed addition in 90 chapters by 93 authorities. This reviewer, who was never enthusiastic about previous editions, found the present one to be well-organized, well-indexed, and thoroughly readable. Medical students, instructors in pharmacology, and clinicians should welcome it.
The very characteristics that make the current edition an excellent textbook detract from it as a reference book. Thus, the clinician who seeks detailed information about a specific drug may have to be satisfied with a discussion of a closely related drug. The clinician may then question the
