That few physicians can properly evaluate the musculoskeletal system can be attributed, in part, to the inadequacies of standard textbooks of physical diagnosis and of most subspecialty sources. Several rheumatologists and former fellows of the Mayo Clinic have provided the means to correct this: a comprehensive guide for the orderly examination of the joints.
Briefly considered in this monograph is the anatomy of each joint or group of related joints but with particular attention given to the relationships of the synovial membrane.
