The medical practitioner no less than the medical student avidly seeks simply presented sources of information designed to assist him in solving diagnostic problems. The popularity among medical students of short synopses of basic sciences attests to their early appreciation of these short cuts. I know at least one enterprising student who developed a brisk trade in sales to fellow students of mimeographed copies of outlines of standard texts, and rumor has it that at least one successful scientific publishing firm developed from just such endeavor.
