The use of electrophoretic techniques for the study of serum and tissue proteins began in 1939 with the application of Tiselius' moving boundary electrophoresis technique. The advent of paper, agar gel, starch gel, and acrylamide gel electrophoresis have each provided special new approaches. Wieme's monograph is of great value, for in this book one of the best authorities on agar gel electrophoresis has diligently and carefully described the methodology, necessary theory, and applications of this technique.
