Three prominent Boston internists and medical educators have asked 69 authorities to join with them in controversial discussions on a number of medical disorders. The 23 subjects are varied and include hypertensive drugs, diet in the ulcer patient, treatment of emphysema, classification of cirrhosis, pathogenesis of chronic glomerulonephritis, and the control of obesity. Two to four specialists present their opinions in essay-type reviews, followed by a summary of the opposing points of view of one of the editors, who often presents his own impressions. It is apparent that the contributors have been carefully selected in order to have opposing statements
