As indicated in its preface, this book was written "to make available to the general practioner, internist, and general surgeon the essential information concerning cancer of all sites . . . (so) that they can appreciate the best approach to the management of an individual." The task is accomplished admirably; for even though this large volume is the work of 71 different contributors, it is an almost uniformly succinct and well-written exposition of cancer management.
Naturally with such multiple authorship there is some duplication of effort and occasional controversy. Neither are necessarily bad. Indeed such controversy in areas of therapeutic
