There are hazards in attempting to describe in detail in 351 small pages so large and varied a subject as gastroenterology. However, a remarkable amount of information is contained in this compact but comprehensive book from Great Britain. All important phases of gastroenterology, including disorders of the liver and biliary tract, are succinctly described. Liberal use is made of diagrams, tables, and outlines, which are well done and contribute greatly to the book's compactness and usefulness. There has been no attempt to present various points of view in controversial issues, although the authors' viewpoints are reasonable in most cases. There
