As an outgrowth of a recent course presented by the American Gastroenterologic Association, the contents of this text emphasize what is new rather than giving a comprehensive review of the specialty. The text is made up of the papers and panel discussions which ensued during the course presentation. Several chapters are devoted to various aspects of connective tissue disease and auto-immunity in specific organs, to the gastrointestinal hormones particularly histamine, gastrin and serotonin, and hepatic circulation and pathology as well as the liver's role in fat and bilirubin metabolism.
A departure from this emphasis on newness is the crisp chapter
