The disappearance curve of plasma radioactivity after the intravenous injection of 131I-labeled 1-thyroxine has been utilized experimentally to determine the magnitude and turnover of the exchangeable thyroid hormonal pool in man (1-4). This report is concerned with the clinical application of the determination of radiothyroxine turnover to the characterization of thyroid function in patients with suspect thyroid disease in whom conventional (that is, routine) thyroid function studies had not allowed a definitive diagnosis. The results obtained demonstrate the value of a radiothyroxine turnover study in these circumstances and suggest that the rate of removal of circulating thyroxine is a significant
