A fortunate combination of a sound, understandable physiological explanation by Dr. Hyman is presented here, with an equally competent medical presentation by Dr. Winsor. The reader, even if an expert, will find fresh and useful ideas, though he will in some places differ with the authors. The book for the most part is pleasantly readable.
The newer physiological concepts of regulation of blood flow are arranged in a convenient manner. Much of the most useful information concerns the microcirculation. I like the description of the vascular system in terms of functions subserved, such as exchange, distribution, resistance, and capacity better
