Obviously extensive experience of the authors in a well-operated respiratory care unit makes this book uniquely valuable for both teaching and reference, particularly in the treatment of severely ill patients. The review of relevant respiration physiology, to which the first half of the book is devoted, is well organized and well written, but is more readily duplicated by other available texts than the second half of the book, which is clinically oriented and is based largely on the authors' unique experience.
The physiological section, while generally good, is occasionally too brief for adequate explanation to the uninitiated. It also contains
