The first English version of this manual represents a translation from the third, 1957 edition in French. To the original version, 56 new species and 162 corrections have been added in an effort to span the newer developments of the past decade. More than 250 bibliographic references and an alphabetical list of the 500 or so anaerobic bacteria further enhance the value of this useful book.
Arranged according to taxonomic class, order, family, genus, and species, each agent is discussed according to a standard pattern: synonym(s), habitat, morphology, physiology, cultural characteristics, and pathogenicity.
