Although intended primarily as a collegelevel medical microbiology textbook, the second edition of Diagnostic Microbiology is a useful reference for the physician concerned with infectious diseases. Most of the book is devoted to a review of currently recommended methods for the recovery and identification of clinically significant bacteria and fungi. The sections devoted to the mycoses and the mycobacteria have been extensively revised to provide more complete coverage of these important pathogens.
