There are many books on atherosclerosis but almost none on hypertensive vascular disease, a ratio that does not tally with the ratio of the occurrence of these vascular diseases in man. Hypertensive vascular disease, for which we unfortunately have no simple, suitable name, is common and often lethal. This fact is insufficiently recognized in teaching the young. Giese's book describes it and much of what is known about its pathogenesis and does it well. I suspect it will be of more interest to investigators than to most clinicians unless they have special interest in hypertension as, indeed, they should have!
