A prospective author of a medical book is confronted with multiple dilemmas. First, he must decide whether to write the book at all, and a difficult decision this is. Then, if the answer is positive, he must decide the scope of the book and from this determine whether he is going to write it alone, whether he will require one or more coauthors, or whether he will have many contributors write one or more chapters each; finally, he has to select a publisher.
