More than half this second edition of Hormone Assays is devoted to the pituitary-ovarian axis and pregnancy, a reflection of the authors' abiding interest and expertise in this area. Their comprehensive, lucid summaries of methodology cover the salient details, statistics included, of chemical and bioassays for gonadotropins and ovarian steroids, and the unique virtues and shortcomings of bioassay techniques are spelled out. Great stress is laid on the value of serial assays in interpretation of clinical problems, and the author's own data from such studies are presented in extenso.
