The author, an assistant professor of pathology at the New Jersey College of Medicine, has compiled a general introduction to medical practice written specifically for the clergyman. A broad range of subjects is covered: hospital routine, professional courtesy, the various psychiatric syndromes, organic brain disorders, physical and psychological changes associated with aging, counseling, and interviewing techniques. There are chapters discussing problems related to dealing with sexual disturbances, marriage and family life, and adolescence. The manner of presentation is generally informal and discursive, somewhat opinionated at times, but the position taken by the author is generally consistent with general medical practice.
