The frightening expansion of the literature of the life sciences creates a need for all kinds of devices in order that any one reader can remain even reasonably abreast of his own field. In this connection catalogues, particularly when annotated, are proving more and more useful. The book by Dr. Lush is a nicely annotated catalogue and, as such, covers those instances where inherited biochemical variation has been established in nonhuman vertebrates.
