Few physicians can offer the diabetic patient the time necessary for adequate instruction about his disease. Since education is so important to the patient's future well-being, informative, easily understood handbooks are always welcome. Dr. Schmitt's offering in this area contains not only a text that should be easily understood by the layman but many excellent illustrations as well. Insulin administration and urine testing are well presented. The section on diet therapy properly stresses fundamental concepts while effectively debunking popularly held misconceptions concerning weight reduction.
