Of the nine review articles in this collection, written by experts in their respective fields, about three or four have relatively little relevance to medical practice but are useful to the virologist.
An interesting article by George Dick documents eloquently the inadequacy of common smallpox vaccination practices. In countries where smallpox is no longer endemic, one should either vaccinate much more than is the practice or much less. Schiff and Sever provide a useful review of advances in the laboratory and clinical study of rubella. Gresser and Lang review the relationship between viruses and leukocytes.
