Chest disease in children has recently emerged as a subspecialty in pediatrics, and only two suitable textbooks have been written specifically in this area. The work under consideration, even with its limitations, is by far the better.
The first chapter, "The Functional Basis of Respiratory Pathology," is a good review of applied pulmonary physiology and is the best section in the book. The book follows the teaching format used in many medical schools, the physiology being presented in the early sessions and the subsequent clinical discussions given with little reference to the physiological basis of symptoms and treatment.
